Special Needs Char 1. by ~XxdancerXofXmiseryxX:iconXxdancerXofXmiseryxX:

Special Needs:
Pairing: Bill and Tom Kaulitz (Non-Relation story)
Fan-fiction Type: Fluff-Slash
Rating: PG-13
Description: Fate has guided Tom to befriend Bill; an awkward teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome. But what happens when an innocent friendship turns into much more.

It had always been said that friendship’s came in many different shapes and sizes. It was always said that even two people of complete opposites could be the best of friends, that no matter whom the person or their background it was always possible. It was always said that friendships were the strongest bonds that a person could posses, the greatest gift anyone could. It was always said that first loves were temporary but friendships were forever...but was that always the case? That was the true question.

“Gerog what the hell are you doing!?” exclaimed Tom as Georg ran down the hall’s with Tom on his back just barely dodging the surrounding people. “Put me down!” Georg laughed and came to a halt letting Tom down who currently had a look of annoyance on his face. The two fell silent for a moment before they began to burst out laughing earning many odd stares from their peers.

“You do realize you are the reason we are so rejected, don’t you?!” exclaimed Tom laughing. Georg rolled his eyes

“I’m sure I’m not the only reason” said Georg sarcastically. Tom simply shook his head.

“…and what other reason’s do you suppose there are?” quizzed Tom raising an eyebrow at Georg. Georg looked up at the ceiling as though trying to find an answer to his friends question but before he had the chance to answer the two were interrupted.

“Mein Gott, I leave you two alone for two seconds and this is what happens. Jeez, I question why I hang out with you two!” exclaimed their friend and also third member of the trio Gustav. Tom and Georg laughed.

“Well if it weren’t for Georg over here deciding to pick me up and run around with me then we wouldn’t have this problem” exclaimed Tom. Gustav raised an eyebrow

“Say wha- you know what, I don’t even want to know!” said Gustav shaking his head. Before anyone had a chance to take the conversation any further The Bell had sounded and the three had to part their separate ways.

Tom walked down the crowded and cramped halls of his high school in attempt to make it to his first period class, something he often time’s failed miserably at. He was never one to be on time and his teacher’s were quite aware of this fact but never paid too much mind towards the matter since Tom’s GPA obviously wasn’t lacking and he was always one to be a good student anyway.

Tom entered his first period Homeroom class and took his normal seat towards the middle of the class. He pulled out his Notes Binder and stared attentively at the front of the room waiting for his Homeroom teacher Mrs. Marshall to make whatever announcements she normally made before the short and pointless fifteen minute period ended. As Tom continued to sit he noticed that someone, what looked to be a student was talking to Mrs. Marshall. From behind all Tom could make out from him was the fact that he was very tall and extremely slender, His hair was black and seemed to stick up in all different directions and his attire was one of a typical boy who was into the alternative scene. Standing clad in a pair of stone-washed straight legged jeans and a fitted black Placebo shirt the boy was clearly different from most people who went to this school.

Tom stared at the two as the continued to converse before Mrs. Marshall handed the boy what looked to be his schedule and pointed out a seat for him to sit in that just so happened to be located just beside Tom. Tom smiled at this fact knowing that he wanted to make conversation with this mysterious boy, to him he just seemed...interesting, like someone he could easily get along with, but hey, looks could be deceiving, for all Tom knew this boys alternative dress and impressive hair style could be derived from pure arrogance. This was just something that Tom would just have to find out for himself.

With these thoughts set in place Mrs. Marshall stood up from behind her desk and stood next to the boy.

“Class, we have a new student, his name is Bill and he has just transferred here. Now I expect you all to welcome him and make him feel right at home” Mrs. Marshall announced to the class. The class looked around at one and other and began whispering towards one and other some making snickering remarks about Bill’s general domineer. Tom simply sat in his desk feeling somewhat bad for the poor kid. It was never fun being the new kid and being subject to mass amounts of ridicule and teasing was never that pleasant either.

Bill simply stared at the class blankly for a few moments before making any signs or gestures of communication.

“Um, hallo” he almost whispered blushing profusely. Tom figured he must have been shy, that and the fact that his homeroom class was very intimidating. With that Bill walked quickly to his desk slipping into it and zoning out finding a sudden interest in his well manicured nails. Meanwhile Tom was in gawking awe, up close Bill was quite, well, pretty; that was the only word that could really describe him. Aside from his well kept hands and nails and his fashion sense Bill’s facial features were to die for. High slightly protruding cheekbones pouty pink lips and genuine chocolate eyes that anyone could melt in. Bill was simply gorgeous. To top it all off if you looked closely enough you could notice that he was also wearing a fairly thin layer of eyeliner and clear lip gloss. Though Tom was never one for liking guys in makeup he did admit that Bill pulled it off quite artistically.

Feeling as though he was staring and invading Bill’s personal space in a sense he turned away from Bill pretending to focus on the notes in front of him. But before long his was disrupted.

“Tom can you please come up here for a second?” said Mrs. Marshall. Tom’s head shot up and he nodded standing up and approaching the front of the classroom. Once in front of her desk he spoke

“You wanted to see me?” asked Tom curiously. Mrs. Marshall nodded.

“Yes, as I was looking at Bill’s schedule I noticed that the majority of his classes are with you. I was wondering if you would mind showing him around today, you know, make sure he doesn’t get lost?” said Mrs. Marshall. Tom smiled.

“Yea, sure I can do that” said Tom who was beaming on the inside happy to have an excuse to talk to the new but fascinating kid in his class. The two remained in awkward silence for a moment before Mrs. Marshall spoke up once again

“Tom, just one thing” she said

“What is it?” Tom replied curiously

“Bill is, well, Bill is just a little, erm, different from most kids, a little hard to communicate with, so don’t be taken by too much surprise if he doesn’t answer you right away” said Mrs. Marshall choosing her word’s cautiously. Tom raised an eyebrow, he could tell Bill was shy, but it didn’t seem bad enough to the point where his teacher would have to warn him. He shrugged figuring she was just being over cautious and he would just have to try his hardest to communicate with Bill. With that Tom returned to his desk just in time for the bell to sound signalling second period was just around the corner. He gathered his bags and turned his attention towards Bill.

“Um Bill” he received no response. He nodded and tried again “Bill?” still no response. He sighed in slight frustration but tried once more raising his voice slightly “Bill!” he said now receiving a response from Bill.

“What? Yea?” said Bill who quickly adverted his eye’s towards Tom. Tom smiled finding Bill’s Surprised reaction somewhat cute.

“Um, I’m Tom, I am going to show you around to your classes today” said Tom out stretching his arm giving his hand for Bill to shake “…that is, if you don’t mind” he finished. Bill stared at him for a few moments before finally responding.

“I’m Bill” he paused “I don’t really mind” he finished before taking Tom’s hand and shaking it briefly. With that the two gathered their things and walked out of the classroom towards their next class.

“Bill, may I see your schedule?” asked Tom. Bill glanced at Tom for moment before removing his schedule from his pocket and holding it out in front of Tom for him to read. Tom raised an eyebrow at this gesture wondering why Bill had not just handed it to him. Had he really taken him literally when he asked to ‘see’ his schedule? Nevertheless Tom instantly recognized that the two shared the same English class next hour and would continue to have the same classes up until fourth hour where they would part but then return to the same schedule from lunch hour to the rest of the day. Tom was grateful for this, something inside of him told him that Bill could easily get lost and that communication and directions could easily be misunderstood by him. Something was different about Bill, but he couldn’t quite place what it was. Maybe he truly was just Socially Awkward.

The two boys entered their second period class and after Bill had his schedule checked Tom and himself headed towards their desks. Once again Tom was very close to Bill only this time Bill was behind him rather then towards the side of him. For this Tom was grateful, he didn’t know why, but despite all the awkwardness Tom had taken an extreme liking to this boy and had a feeling that the two of them did have the potential to become good friends in the future.

The day seemed to go by three times faster then normal for Tom when Bill was around but seemed to come to an agonizing halt during fourth hour when the two had to part their separate ways. Tom sat in his four hour History class counting the minutes until his lunch hour. Not only because he was dying to meet up with Bill and introduce him to his friends but because in general History was just flat out boring to him.

Finally the Bell had sounded and Tom literally jumped out of his seat heading towards Bill’s classroom in he hopes of finding him quickly so he could invite him to sit with his friends at lunch.

Tom rushed through the hallways searching for Bill, something that was not too hard to do seeing as in a crowd Bill stood out drastically. Once he had spotted Bill he rushed over towards him.

“Hey Bill, do you want to sit with my friends and I at-…Bill?” said Tom who was now dumbfound and concerned. When he had looked at Bill’s facial expression’s he saw nothing but a look of pure anxiety and fear in his eyes. He looked as though he had seen a monster of some sort.

“Um, Bill?” said Tom, voice laced with concern. Bill’s head drastically turned.

“Wha-yea?” answered Bill surprised. Tom looked Bill directly in the eyes, a habit he adopted over his life.

“Are you ok?” asked Tom in a low tone. Bill nodded

“Yes, fine” he said adverting his eyes “It’s just so…loud, that’s all” he finished. Tom smiled at Bill chuckling to himself.

“Well, yea, most hallways are, especially the ones at our school, you’ll get used to it” said Tom smiling. Bill nodded slowly as he began rocking back and forth on his feet. Tom took Bill’s hand trying to comfort him as best he could. “…would you care to join my friends and I this lunch hour, they are really sweet guys, you’ll love them” said Tom. Bill fell silent for a moment before speaking up again.

“Sure, that’d be nice” said Bill. With that Tom re-gripped Bill’s hand and led him through the crowded hallways and into the cafeteria to meet up with Georg and Gustav. Once found the two took a seat from the other two and introductions began.

“Guys, this is Bill, Bill this is Gustav, and this is Georg” said Tom introducing the three to each other. “Bill just moved here” Tom added. With that Georg smiled nodding and outstretched his hand.

“I’m Georg, nice to meet you Bill” he said politely, despite his silly domineer, the majority of the time he was always extremely polite when meeting new people. Bill smiled taking Georg’s hand and shaking it.

“Gustav” said Gustav quickly earning a confused look from Bill. Tom instantly realized that Bill had become confused by whatever it was that Gustav had said. Perhaps it was his tone? Tom didn’t know, but he figured it was best he didn’t question it and quickly changed the topic.

“So, did anyone hear about Placebo coming to play in concert in a month? I hear Ticket’s go on sale in a week. I think we should totally go!” said Tom. With that Bill’s face lit up.

“Oh, I love Placebo!” he exclaimed clapping his hands rapidly as though extremely excited. “One of my favourite bands” he finished in a much calmer tone. The entire group, even Tom, were taken aback by Bill’s sudden outburst, just moment’s ago he barely knew how to respond to a simple introduction and now all of a sudden he was sociable and loud…?Though strange to the three they all continued to go along with their conversation as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

“Ja, I like them a lot too” said Georg “They are clearly a great band. I think we should seriously look into seeing them live” he finished. The three boy’s nodded and agreement and continued conversing about random topics, though in the majority Bill did very little participating and seemed to become as distant as he had previously been. By this point Tom knew that there wasn’t something right about Bill, he didn’t know what it was, but he knew it wasn’t just shyness; it was something else…something more. But he couldn’t put his finger on what it was.

As quickly as the school day had begun it had come to a close. By this point Tom had already grown a liking to Bill despite all the social difficulties their friendship contained and he was hoping that Bill felt the same way about him. The two boys walked out towards the front of the school getting ready to say their final goodbyes to each other for the day.

“So Bill, how are you getting home?” asked Tom curious as to whether the two would be walking home together, but before Tom received a response from Bill he realized that he was already walking towards a car, Tom had his answer now but was feeling slightly disappointed by the fact that he didn’t get to say a proper goodbye. He sighed and watched as the car drove off. Once it was clearly out of sight he turned and began walking home. It had been a collective day for Tom and he wanted nothing more then to simply go home and relax for the night. But despite it all their was still one thing that remained on his mind the entire time…Bill

Ok, to clarify a few things before anyone gets confused (or even more confused) I will explain and link you to what Asperger’s Syndrome is. To put it in simple terms at the moment it is basically a neurological dysfunction which affect’s one’s communication skills with others. It is closely linked with Autism; however the someone suffering from Asperger’s does not suffer from the same mental disabilities as someone with autism (Lower IQ , learning disability ect.).

Below I will explain some of Bill’s odd behaviours in this chapter and I will continue to do so in later chapters as well. So let me begin explaining.

1. Bill’s constant speech delay and lack of recognition towards people trying to gain his attention is caused by Asperger’s. Often times, someone with the syndrome will fail to recognize when someone is trying to grab their attention.

2. The Schedule: People with Asperger’s usually perceive, take in and translate what people say in a literal manor. (I.E. If someone were to tell them to ‘get lost’ they might literally take it as someone telling them to get lost rather then taking it as the typical ‘go away’ )

3. Bill’s near panic attack when in loud crowded areas: People with Asperger’s often have enhanced sensory that can be easily overloaded, say something is to loud or two many people are talking at once or even so much as something having to rigid of a feeling, this may trigger fear and anxiety in someone with Asperger’s.

4. Why so intrigued?: Bill’s sudden outburst when Placebo is mentioned in the story is due to a narrow path of interest. Often time’s people with Asperger’s with have a very narrow mind of interest, and may only be interested in that one thing and nothing else. In Bill’s case one of these few interests is Music.

-

Correct me if I am wrong in any of these explanations, seriously. I hate to sound like a walking textbook but I really want people who are reading this to be as aware about what the situation is as possible.

Also note, I am not trying to make fun of or offend anyone, this story was simply based off something I have been studying a lot lately these days and my own sheer imagination…nothing else.

If you are interested in finding out more about Asperger’s then here are two links to a few fairly lengthy articles on it. --->[link] [link]

That is all. Feedback is greatly appreciated

I'm liking it.

When I used to go to therapy, there were two guys with Asburgers.

They were amazing and they had a GREAT sense of humor.

They were kind of nerdy guys too, extremely smart and socially withdrawn.

One of them knew pretty much everything about anything.

He was awesome. XD

Oh, that's cool!

Well, I am glad you liked it. I was so afraid that people would hate it just because of the fact that it brought up such strong subjects. :D
